Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Experience: Dr. Fred O. Smith combines over 20 years of clinical practice with 18 years of pharmaceutical and biotechnology experience, to provide a unique perspective to the pharmaceutical research, development, and marketing processes. Fred’s pharmaceutical experience is diverse. He has served as a pharmaceutical physician and medical director and advised companies, study research sites, and colleagues on topics such as general strategy, drug safety, clinical study monitoring, medical writing, regulatory submissions, and other medical and scientific issues. Fred has also designed, written, and reviewed regulatory submissions, FDA briefing documents and clinical development plans, designed and conducted pharmaceutical and biotechnology training, given speeches, and consulted with numerous pharmaceutical and biotechnology clients. Fred is co-author of two books about clinical research, the Physician Investigator Handbook and the Clinical Research Monitor Handbook. Fred received both his bachelor’s and medical degrees from the University of Florida. Fred practiced general medicine for 20 years before joining the the pharmaceutical industry.
